Dhyana Veerasana (Hero’s Meditation Pose)

Hero Pose or Virasana, where ‘Vira’ = ‘Hero’ and ‘Asana’ = ‘Pose’, is an intermediate level, sitting yoga pose.

Dhyana Veerasana, also known as Hero’s Meditation Pose, is a yoga asana for meditation that involves sitting with the left leg bent underneath the right, and the right leg bent over the left, with both heels tucked in towards the hips. It is a posture that helps you sit for extended periods by engaging the hips and thighs while stretching the hips and outer thighs. This pose can improve posture, aid digestion, and promote mental relaxation.

Hero Pose (Virasana) is a relaxing pose for the legs that stretches the knees, thighs, and ankles and removes the stiffness of these areas.

A tip for beginners

Frequently, in that position, the tops of your feet unconsciously put more pressure on the floor than the outer head. To remedy this, strengthen the pinky-toe of the foot that is on the floor. For Hero Pose practice, seek the guidance of a qualified yoga instructor.
