What Is Kundalini?
In the timeless vision of the yogic seers, the human body is not merely flesh and bone — it is a sacred temple, woven with channels of energy (nadis), centers of consciousness (chakras), and infused with the breath of life (prāṇa). Hidden at the root of this temple, in the region of the mūlādhāra chakra, lies a divine force known as Kundalini shakti — the coiled, dormant energy of pure consciousness.
The word Kundalini comes from the Sanskrit kundala, meaning “coiled” or “circular,” symbolizing the latent power resting in a spiral form, like a serpent in repose. The ancient masters tell us that this is not an ordinary energy — it is the very creative power of the cosmos (shakti), the Mother of all manifestation. When awakened, Kundalinī ascends through the sushumna nāḍī, piercing the chakras one by one, and uniting with the Supreme Consciousness (shiva) in the sahasrāra at the crown of the head.
Kundalini Tantra is a sacred science handed down from guru to disciple, preserved in scriptures such as the Śiva Saṁhitā, Gheraṇḍa Saṁhitā, Hatha Yoga Pradīpikā, and the tantric upaniṣads.
Kundalini, in the ancient yogic tradition, is described as the dormant spiritual energy coiled at the base of the spine, often likened to a sleeping serpent. Through dedicated practice of Kundalini Tantra Yoga, this energy rises upward, passing through the seven chakras — subtle energy centers that govern different aspects of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. As the chakras awaken, one experiences greater clarity, vitality, and a deep sense of unity with the universe.
In this tradition, awakening is not forced. It is cultivated through a harmonious integration of āsana, prāṇāyāma, mudrā, bandha, mantra japa, dhyāna, and above all, the guidance of a realized teacher. Each practice purifies the nāḍīs, balances the prāṇa, and prepares the mind to receive higher states of awareness without disturbance.
Kundalinī Tantra does not reject the world — it sanctifies it. Every sense experience, every action, and every thought becomes an offering to the Divine. The awakened yogi walks through life with the vision that Īśāvāsyam idam sarvam — “All this is pervaded by the Lord” — and thus lives in unity, non-attachment, and bliss.
Come and awaken the eternal energy within — only at Ishavasyam Yoga School.
